For those of you who haven’t heard by now… the ground-breaking hip-hop origin storytelling series The Get Down has been cancelled!
Deadline was the first to report the news.
Baz Luhrmann, famous for 1996’s Romeo + Juliet, 2001’s Moulin Rouge, and 2013’s The Great Gatsby explained in a lengthy Facebook post why the series won’t be returning for a new season. Luhrmann confirmed the news when he expressed the show being “unlikely” to go back into production.
Although he poured a lot of love and energy into this project, he also reveals he had to be true to himself. “The simple truth is, I make movies. And the thing with movies is, that when you direct them, there can be nothing else in your life.”
